CAMPAIGNERS hoping to add a certain je ne sais quoi to education in the borough are appealing for more support to make their bilingual primary school dream a reality.

So far 100 families have expressed their support for Bromley Bilingual Primary School (BBPS) with 150 children signed up on the website as potential pupils.

The group behind the plan has submitted a 150-page document to the Department for Education outlining why it thinks Bromley needs a school where children are taught in English and French.

If approved by the Government, the state-funded school has a planned opening date of September next year for reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes.

It would be part of the Government’s free schools programme and aimed at French and non-French speakers alike. But before this can happen the BBPS team needs to show the Government it has a lot of support for the plan.

Nathan Hardman, who is heading the school project, said: "We need to show there is growing support from more parents of children born between September 2008 and August 2011.

"If invited to interview, we will need to demonstrate to the department we have continuing strong support for our school.

"Every family and child registered helps make our school become a reality.

"Remember, filling in our survey does not commit you to us in 2014 or take away any choices you have made or may want to regarding the formal local authority admissions.

"Our survey simply helps us prove the potential demand and support from parents across south London and the need for a bilingual choice in local primary schools."

To help parents learn how the school hopes to make bilingual education a reality there will be a meeting on February 2 where the team behind it will be answering questions and outlining the school’s proposed education plan.

It will take place at 2pm at the Verral Hall, Bromley United Reformed Church, Widmore Road, Bromley.
