THE incident centre for people affected by the gas supply problems in the Locksbottom area has reopened this morning.

Southern Gas Networks (SGN) representatives will be at St Michael’s Church in Crofton Road to advise people about the issue.

They will also be able to tell customers about compensation they can expect to receive from SGN.

All affected residents will be compensated for their time without gas.

After the first 24 hours they will receive £30 for each 24 hour period they are without gas, this will be paid automatically and appear as a credit on their next gas bill.

Last night (January 5) SGN had 90 properties left to reconnect and these were mainly in Lennard Road, Lower Gravel Road, Randolph Road and Seymour Drive.

The gas supply problem started on December 30 when water got into the gas network from a burst water main.

Around 1,650 properties were affected and had to be disconnected from the gas network while water was pumped out.

Thames Water staff will also be at the incident centre today to help any customers who have experienced water travelling past their gas meter or water damage to their appliances.

The SGN customer service team can be reached on 08450 701431.
