South-east London wedding bookings rise today on rarest date of the century
12:23pm Wednesday 12th December 2012 in Bromley By Heloise Wood
THE number of weddings has soared today on the last date this century where the day, month and year match.
Register offices across south-east London have seen an increase as couples take advantage of the unusual occurrence.
A spokesman for Bromley Council said: “Our registrars often find the date someone chooses to marry will have special significance and as this is the last day in this century when the date, month and the year correspond then it certainly will be an anniversary they won’t forget.
"In Bromley we have eight ceremonies today when normally on a Wednesday we’d expect one.”
A Greenwich Council spokesman said: “We have seen an increase in weddings, we don’t normally get many requests mid-week but we’ve had five today.”
It will be more than 88 years before January 1, 2101 comes around which is the next time the day, month and year will match.

THE rarest date in the century? Gosh, yes, because there are only between two and eleven others like it.
Unless you consider that all dates are *equally* rare, each only occurring once.
