BROMLEY teenagers have got a taste for international politics after running a United Nations style event.

Newstead Wood School for Girls pupils organised a range of debates at Bromley Civic Centre, in Stockwell Close, on November 30, with seven schools participating altogether.

Students organised themselves into four teams to represent countries and discussed a host of issues including religion, health care, the Euro banking crisis and immigration.

Delegations from Newstead Wood School, in Avebury Road  Orpington, also had a chance to debate and change resolutions, just as United Nations members would.

Year 13 student organiser Hannah Jones said: "I do three science subjects so I think people were surprised about my involvement but it really teaches you about other subjects and widens your horizons.

"I was inspired to take part after going along to last year's one.

"You hear such a range of debates, anything from the banking crisis to nuclear disarmament. It was brilliant."
