A GROUP of disability campaigners celebrated the newly accessible Bromley South station last week.

Access All Areas, which is based at St Cecilia’s Leonard Cheshire Disability Service, in Sundridge Avenue, Bromley, had campaigned for years for the station to be made accessible.

Improvements were made to the station in September this year.

The group celebrated by taking the 11.20am train to Victoria Station on November 13.

New lifts allow step-free access to the platforms which benefits parents with prams and toddlers as well as disabled people. Changes have also been made to the station entrance and ticket facilities.

Access All Areas spokesman Susan Willats said: "We are thrilled now to have the opportunity to travel to the centre of London and back from Bromley South - a freedom previously denied to us.

"It also gives us a great feeling of achievement to have helped make things better for the whole community in Bromley through these improvements.

"We had a fantastic day in London and a great experience in using the station and the trains.

"Our thanks go to the staff of South Eastern Railways at both ends of the journey who helped make our trip run so smoothly."
