I like my food as much as the next person and I especially have a soft spot for pasta and all things seafood. However, one thing I do not like eating is spiders. Pasta and spiders do not go.
A few weeks ago I was at work and I was hungry.
I decided it was time to eat my lunch so I took out a container full of pasta which I had left over from the previous night.
After heating it up I sat down with my mag and started to enjoy my lunch break. I had already munched my way through half of it when something caught my eye.
Now, the pasta was in a tomato based sauce with capers, but what I was looking at seemed so strange.
At first I thought it was part of a tomato but upon closer inspection it looked like a maggot was on the end.
Whatever it was it was roasted.
It had legs, a small head and some strange looking maggot on the end and it scared me, So I stopped eating.
I went without any lunch that day. Something just stopped me from eating it.
I showed a few colleagues and we all agreed it looked like a spider.
I kept the offending looking object and later showed my Mum, who had bought the sauce. She was horrified.
To cut a long story short, she took it back to the 0 supermarket it was bought from and it was sent off to be analyzed. I had to know what it was.
The other day we got a letter back confirming what I thought, it was a SPIDER!!! I was disgusted.
But along with my disgust came some comfort, well I guess that's what they thought it was. There was a £5 voucher.
A £5 voucher. What am I supposed to do with a £5 voucher, go and buy some more of the same sauce?!
I know it was a goodwill gesture but please, they could have done better.
I mean afterall, I can no longer eat pasta with that sauce and it actually stopped me eating it full stop for a while! I was traumatised!
I want to know what offending objects you've found in your food, and what, if anything, you have done about it.
I'm not sure about you but it once again makes me worry about the conditions in which my food is being produced.
One thing's for sure, I will NEVER be eating that sauce again!
