What a pathetic, spineless and utterly pointless set of measures from the Government to tackle the fuel price crisis.
Everything announced by Gordon Brown today is aimed at helping the ‘most poor’, the people who already benefit from a vast array of handouts to help them live their lives.
What about the millions of people such as me who are caught between a rock and a hard place – working and paying taxes, but not bringing in enough money to cope with rocketing gas and
electricity bills?
The best proposal from our ever-helpful Government is for 50 per cent off the cost of insulation. One major flaw is this doesn’t take into account the vast numbers of people who rent their
properties. The other major flaw is it leaves people with the option of spending out MORE money that they haven’t got.
Even then, paying out for better insulation will take years before there are any results.
I’m already doing what I can to try and contain the amount of energy I use at home, but my bills keep going up and up. So this genius rescue plan from the Government won’t help me in the
slightest.
I’m not in favour of a rebate across the board for every energy customer because that amounts to a free handout as well. But there’s got to be some measure better than those announced
today to help people struggling with ever-increasing living costs?
If the Government won’t offer more help to people then it should at least take tougher action against the energy companies to keep prices under control.
