Our society is becoming more and more obsessed with appearance and this is demonstrated perfectly in the story about Lin Miaoke miming to a song by Yang Peiyi at the Olympics because seven year
old Yang was not deemed pretty enough.
I was livid when I read this story.
What kind of message is it sending out to young people that it is lovely to have a beautiful voice but if you don’t somehow “fit” the perfect model we have in mind someone else will
do?
Yang looked like a normal seven year old girl to me, but one with an extraordinary voice. Surely that is the important thing?
What will her parents be telling her now? She wasn’t pretty enough to appear at the Olympics but her voice was still used.
It is so wrong and the Olympic chiefs should be ashamed of themselves.
