Swap Shopper: Meeting my first swapper

By Simon Bull »

I had the great pleasure of meeting some lovely members of Bexley Archaeology Group when I visited their dig site to exchange my News Shopper keyring.

I left with some really encouraging support for my charity challenge and also a year’s membership of the group, which is now the next item I am trying to swap.

I hope to meet all my swappers in person along the way and it was great to go along and see the archaeology group in action.

There was a mix of men and women, and a wide range of ages. They were extremely friendly and welcoming, and if anyone is thinking of taking the plunge and offering me a swap then you will become part of a group which I can heartily recommend.

Archaeology is all about the history beneath our feet and if you have ever pondered learning more about local heritage then this could be a fascinating hobby.

Chairman of BAG Martin Baker, who I am pictured with here completing the first link in my Swap Shopper chain, told me getting into archaeology can be addictive.

It’s a great way to meet new people, get some outdoor exercise and possibly uncover some interesting clues about your area’s past.

I reckon the membership has got to be worth some great offers. And remember, even if archaeology isn’t your bag (BAG – Bexley Archaeology Group – comedy genius or what!), this is all for a good cause so why not offer something for it anyway? As has been suggested elsewhere, it might make a very nice present for someone.
