Cock fight in Parliament

By Jon Cheetham »

It’s not just News Shopper readers that can win £100 for the best pic - MPs are doing it too.

And one of the hot favourite’s in this year’s Parliamentary Photgraphy Competition is - Greenwich and Woolwich’s very own Nick Raynsford.

He is one of many Commons’ and Lords’ members who have submitted their favourite holiday snaps in the hope of winning £100 and having his pic featured in a calender - for charity.

Nick’s pic is called “Fighting Cock” and features a prize cock at the weigh-in before a bout.

The bird’s orange white red and blue plumage are as well focussed as his one beady little eye staring out of the frame - as if to say “come on then - if you think you’re hard enough”.

He is upright, sticking his neck out - almost coming out of the frame.

Don’t bet against this bird when the blood and feathers start to fly.

In the background, his opponent looks a bit limp - slumped in the arms of his owner.

He is going to have to buck up his ideas if he doesn’t want to end up featherless and sizzled - and served up in a fajita.

His owner knows it too - he looks really nervous.
Nick’s got some stiff competition from the other entrants though.

Alan Duncan’s “Preying Mantis” is Murnau to Mr Reynsford’s Scorcesee - and the conservative MPs “Horizon” is epic.

Your “Fighting Cock” is in with a shout Nick - but if only you’d sent it into News Shopper instead - you would definitely have won the £100.
