Vandalised: The Crayford war memorial Vandalised: The Crayford war memorial

CALLOUS vandals have trashed a war memorial in Crayford, ripping off stones and destroying lighting.

The damage to the memorial in Waterside Gardens was discovered by a Bexley Council ground maintenance contractor early on Tuesday morning (September 11).

The damaged stones have been removed and are being stored as  the cost of the damage is assessed. The council said specialist stone masons and lighting engineers will be needed for the fix.

It is the second time the memorial has been damaged since it was relocated three years ago to commemorate the town’s residents who died or were injured serving in the armed forces. The stones were specially designed for the project.

If you have any information please call police on 101 or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
