Floral front garden in Abbey Wood becomes tourist attraction

ONE colourful front garden in Abbey Wood has become a tourist attraction this summer.

Pensioner Audrey Challicombe, who lives in Abbey Wood Road, spends hundreds of pounds each year turning her front garden into a floral spectacle.

This year, the 77-year-old has created such a display that passers-by, from as far afield as China and Germany, have started taking photos with the flowers.

Others have offered donations to ensure Mrs Challicombe can create the display again next year.

Mrs Challicombe’s daughter, Linda, 55, said: “It’s the only property in the road that does a garden every year.

“She gets people knocking at her door wanting to take pictures, it happens all day long.

“It costs her a lot but it is her little pride and joy.”

The garden has been nominated for this year’s Greenwich in Bloom competition and judges have already inspected the garden once.

Good to see!
I live in a neighbouring road with similar floral displays - it certainly brightens up the place!
Well done!

Shame other people down her road can't make the same effort - it would certainly brighten the place up.
