Community garden gets a positive new name
3:41pm Monday 5th March 2012 in Bexley By Jim Palmer
Winner Ray Woodage with Trust Thamesmead's community development officer Linda Delieu
A THAMESMEAD man has picked up a prize for naming a community garden.
Names were suggest for the project in Birchmere Park on Trust Thamesmead’s website, social media and at a meeting.
The garden, open 10am to 4pm on Thursdays, is now known as The Good Life Garden – Birchmere Park.
Ray Woodage, won a shopping voucher for the contribution. He said: “I wanted it to be positive, as there is so much doom and gloom in the world right now. I wanted to use the word ‘good’ in the title. As for ‘life’, the garden will be nurturing plants and trees and help community groups to grow, so I couldn’t think of a better word.”
The garden was created by Trust Thamesmead, with the London Wildlife Trust and Groundwork as part of the European Social Fund’s Cultivating Communities project.
To see the garden or volunteer e-mail Trust Thamesmead’s Linda Delieu at ldelieu@trust-thamesmead.co.uk or call 020 8320 4470.
