Great-grandmother celebrates turning 100 with Elvis Presley cabaret

A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family.

Lucy Maloney earmarked the milestone with an Elvis Presley cabaret at Adelaide Care Home in West Street, Bexleyheath.

She also received a telegram from the Queen.

The mother-of-two was born and grew up in Canning Town, London, along with two sisters and six brothers.

In 1939, she married Bill Maloney, who went on to work as a fireman during the Blitz in 1940.

Together, the couple lived in Borough and had two sons, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her hobbies included shopping in the West End with her sister.

Mrs Maloney’s son John, 64, said: "She had a great time at the party, we had sandwiches and drinks and spent time with the family.

"Not many people reach 100.

"It’s the first in our family and it went very well."
