A BEXLEYHEATH takeaway has been refused permission to stay open until 3am through fear it may encourage crime.
Best Kebab, in the Broadway, applied to Bexley Council for permission to extend its opening hours from 11pm to 3am between Thursday and Saturday nights.
However, the licensing sub-committee refused the application last month on the basis it is not confident the owner is capable of preventing late-night crime, having previously breached licensing conditions.
The decision notice read: “The applicant has repeatedly committed criminal offences by operating beyond the opening hours permitted for the premises and in doing so committed a crime.”
Police also highlighted an incident from October last year to committee members, when 20 men were fighting inside and outside the shop, leading to two arrests.
It was also heard homeowners living nearby had complained about disturbance and litter.
Best Kebab told News Shopper an appeal or new application may be made in due course.
