AN MP has been given a sneaky peek at two new community centres ahead of their official opening next year.
Erith and Thamesmead MP Teresa Pearce visited Sporting Club Thamesmead - a £5m community sports and leisure hub based in Bayliss Avenue that will offer grass pitches, an outdoor games area, an indoor studio and function rooms.
The grass pitches are already available to hire, with the rest opening its doors in early 2012.
She also saw the Link Thamesmead - a £5.65m building under the Harrow Manor Way flyover in Thamesmead which includes a fitness gym, climbing wall, chill out areas with internet access and a cafe, meeting rooms for hire and a 160-seat performance studio.
Currently the Archway Project and Thamesmead Gym open there daily, with all the arches available early next year.
Ms Pearce said: “Families will benefit greatly from the new facilities that will help keep people active and provide space for the community to meet. I am really looking forward to seeing the doors open next year.”
