WELLING: Bumper crowds at Danson festival

IT was billed as the festival with something for everyone, and nearly everyone came.

This year’s Danson Festival attracted a record-busting 60,000-plus people to enjoy a host of attractions and activities and soak up the sunshine in Danson Park, Welling.

The five music stages featured acts from up-coming local and London bands to the legendary Jocelyn Brown and this year’s BeXfactor winners.

A dedicated dance stage showcased the best dancing talent Bexley has to offer.

The arts village featured local arts, crafts and theatre groups as well as a mini cinema showing locally made and archive films, while the sports zone offered taster sessions in a variety of sports on dry and and on the lake.

Young people got the chance to find out opportunities and facilities for them across the borough as well as seeing what other young people have already achieved and the community zone was full of information about local projects and groups and how to help Bexley’s environment.

With a classic car display, arena events, a craft fair, funfair and dragon boat racing as well as giant inflatables, stalls and sideshows, Bexley Council and organisers REM declared the free event “a great success”.

it may have been hailed a success but they did not say how shamefully they treated some acts that agreed to stand in at the last minute.
