THE regeneration Crayford town centre is back on track after the partners in the project signed a legal agreement for the scheme.

Planning permission for the partial redevelopment of the town centre got planning permission in 2008, but the economic downturn has affected its progress.

Now, with the agreement between the council, R&M Projects and Gallions Housing Association, the first phase of construction can soon get underway.

The project will create 180 new homes, a new library and community hall and refurbishment of Crayford town hall.

Its first phase involves building 144 affordable homes for rent and sale, new library and community hall.

Temporary buildings will house the health clinics and the town hall will become a site office, although the ground floor will be available for community uses.

Details of the second phase, involving the town hall, new health facilities and shops and restaurant will also be drawn up.

Bexley cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Linda Bailey said: “This is a significant achievement in such challenging times. The regeneration of this key site will create new jobs and new homes.”
