SIDCUP: Great larks in the park for all the family

LARK in the Park, the award-winning summer scheme in Sidcup has packed away its equipment and taken down its marquees after another successful year.

The 13th free family event, organised by churches in Sidcup, attracted up to 1,500 people on site at The Green every day and around 500 every evening.

More than 350 volunteers, mainly from local churches helped to supervise the clubs and activities for children and teenagers, as well as events for adults and for the over-60s.

Organiser John Arundel said: “People think of Lark in the Park as a children’s event, but we have lots of activities for parents and older people too.

“It is a whole family thing.”

This year organisers introduced a new facility for children with additional needs to make sure they could be part of the mainstream event.

The equipment is being taken to Ramsgate this week, for a two-week event there, before returning to Sidcup until next year’s Lark in the Park.

Anyone who could offer a large free storage facility for the equipment, to save it from being stored in small garages scattered across the area, or who would like to act as a volunteer for next year’s event, can call the Lark in the Park office on 020 8309 6056.
