IT MAY be one of the oldest clubs in the country, but Bexley Football Club is not showing its age.
The club, now based at St Mary’s recreation ground in Lesley Close, Bexley Village, has just held its annual presentation and fun day.
With more than 120 playing members and fielding seven junior, and two senior teams, the club has had a successful year.
Its under-16 team won the South of England trophy and the senior team won its league cup in the South London Alliance.
Altogether there were four cups to be presented, plus participation medals for every player and a variety of other winners and runners-up medals.
The club celebrates its 125th birthday this year and has a gala dinner planned for the autumn.
Its first ground was a field behind the Railway Tavern in the village, just five minutes’ walk from its present ground, and players would get changed in the pub.
Club chairman Terry Peck said: “A hundred and twenty-five years on and the club is still flourishing and maintaining the high standards set for it in the past.”
