A NEW cafe specifically aimed at breastfeeding mums and mums-to-be, has just opened.
Based in the new children’s centre at the New Community Church in Station Road, Sidcup, the cafe will provide free refreshments, toys for older brothers and sisters to play with and expert advice and support for breastfeeding mums and their partners.
Health visitors and breastfeeding consultants will be on hand to answer questions and there will be a chance to meet other mums.
Pregnant women will also be welcome to drop in for advice on breastfeeding.
The Sidcup Baby Cafe is a joint venture by the centre and Bexley Care Trust.
Sonya Cox from the care trust said: “Breast feeding does not always come as naturally as people believe and many give up in the early days and weeks.
“The rates in Bexley reflect this.
“About seven in 10 mothers begin breastfeeding in hospital, but less than half continue after two weeks.
“Nine out of 10 mothers wish they had been able to continue.”
The cafe is open every Tuesday from 1pm to 3pm or to find out more, go to thebabycafe.org
