CRITICISMS of a CCTV system have come to a head as the Tory Group on Bexley Council insists public safety must come first.
In a motion at last week’s council meeting, Conservative councillor Colin Campbell said although Bexley is one of the safest boroughs in London, residents feel unsafe and people need to have confidence in CCTV.
News Shopper has been deluged with complaints about the cameras, which residents feel are not being used to reduce crime.
Council leader Chris Ball said he had been conscious for some time about problems with the operations of the CCTV system, which is not delivering what is required.
He said he had begun a review, involving the police, which should be complete within the next month.
