THE mother of former Bexley Council leader Chris Ball is hoping to join her son on the council.
Pat Ball, who has lived in Welling for 32 years, has been selected to stand for Labour in the East Wickham by-election being held on January 22.
The Welling by-election was caused by the death of Tory councillor Alf Catterall.
Mrs Ball runs a business in Bexleyheath with her husband Dennis and has also worked as a lab technician at Welling School and as a bereavement counsellor.
Councillor Ball is the younger of her two sons.
Another resident, Steven Hall, has been chosen by the Tories to fight the seat.
Mr Hall, a self-employed businessman, has experience in the finance, energy, travel, health and IT sectors.
A married man, he also spent nine years as a special constable.
