Library’s new direction gets the kids’ touch

LIBRARIES in Bexley just got a whole lot more interactive, with children able to vote on what books and events they would like to see.
Nine and 10-year-olds from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Old Road, Crayford, were the first to try out the voting at Crayford library in Crayford Road.
The youngsters used interactive voting pads normally only seen on television quiz shows, and the results were then displayed on a big screen.
Richard Lewis, 10, said: "I felt like I was on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
"It is good when you get to have your own opinion."
Altogether 19 classes from seven primary schools took part in the voting sessions at five different libraries.
Each library will now spend £100 on the book collection which received the most votes.
They will also be laying on the most popular activities, including a diary writing competition and another to design a book jacket.
The choices given to the pupils came from a children's survey in all libraries last October.
