People across the borough arebeing encouraged to help keep Bexley clean as part of Bexley Council’s new anti-littering campaign.
Residents are being asked to #doitforBexley by picking up one piece of litter a week in a bid to clean up the streets.
It has been launched in support of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean which runs from March 2-25.
The campaign runs in partnership with the Council’s Green Points scheme which rewards residents for recycling their rubbish rather than throwing it in landfill.
Last year, street cleaners and volunteers collected over 3,000 tonnes of litter and waste from around the borough.
Cllr Peter Craske said: “BBC’s Blue Planet II and David Attenborough’s work has highlighted the horrific impact of plastic pollution.
“Plastic litter dropped on the floor in a busy town centre can easily be blown into Bexley’s rivers, which ultimately leads to the sea.
“We want people who have had enough of other people’s litter and are willing to do something about it, to make the simple pledge to pick up one piece of plastic litter a week.
“Together we can make a difference and #DoitforBexley!”
