A quarter of the children born in Lewisham last year are starting out in a single-parent household.
The birth certificate records for 2016 have been released by the Office for National Statistics and reveal a lot about family life in south east London and north Kent.
Among the things the stats show are the number of children born to single parents, and the proportion of parents who are married and cohabiting.
Commenting on the national trend revealed by the figures, Nicola Haines from the ONS said: "Our data show that the overwhelming majority of births are registered jointly by two parents."
The ONS says that the figures for the whole of England and Wales show that the proportion of single parent birth registrations was at the lowest level since 1980.
