Police arrested eight teens and seized a number of weapons, including a large samurai sword, after after a disturbance in Woolwich.

The sword was confiscated by officers on Saturday night after reports of a large group of men outside Waterfront Leisure Centre.

Police arrived at the scene at around 8.30pm, at which point the group tried to disperse.

Eight teens were arrested, including five 16-year-olds, one 17-year-old, and two 18-year-olds.

A number of weapons were seized, including the large sword, and the arrested teens were taken to a south London police station.

People were quick to praise the police's efforts on social media, with many commenting on the size of the weapon.

One person commented: "Dear god what were they thinking carrying that?"

Another said: "Well done guys you do amazing work. Keep up the good work."
