Motorists in Bexleyheath can expect more disruption over the next few weeks as roadworks continue to take place in the town centre.

Work on Oaklands Road, by the bowling alley, and Townley Road is ongoing until early October with the carriageway now open to traffic with a single lane in each direction.

Construction has also started on the side of Albion Road nearest the shopping centre between Townley roundabout and Highland Road, by the Magistrates’ Court.

This section is closed to through traffic, with a diversion in place via Broadway and Arnsberg Way until September 15, at which point a temporary single lane lane of traffic will be re-opened.

The Broadway Shopping Centre can still be accessed by vehicles and businesses are open as usual.

Albion Road is closed to traffic in both directions until early October between Highland Road and Gravel Hill with a diversion in place via Highland Road and Broadway. Vehicles can still access the Albion Road car park, except during the week commencing September 18, after 7pm, when surfacing works will begin. Cars will be able to exit the car park during this period.

In late September work will begin on the school’s side of Gravel Hill and the road layout will change, with traffic moved to the Marriott side, and a temporary roundabout in operation at the Albion Road/Gravel Hill junction.

Bexley Council apologised in advance for any inconvenience.

A spokesman said: "We are working with local residents and businesses to minimise disruption. Drivers should take extra care during these temporary arrangements."
