Gym-goers have been paying tribute to a "great person and great friend" who died following an incident at a gym in Bexleyheath. 

The man, who has been named as Tunde Plumptre, was rushed to hospital on Wednesday, September 6.

Police and the London Ambulance Service attended Better Gym at about 7am, and took Mr Plumptre to a south London hospital where he reportedly died on Thursday night.

Ben Homewood, who had known Tunde for about ten years through going to the gym, paid tribute to his loss. 

He said: "Hearing he has passed is a devastating blow to anyone who knew him.  

"Tunde was without doubt one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of knowing.  He was always positive and would light up the room the moment he walked in, always smiling, everybody was pleased to see him.  

"There aren't many people I know who could genuinely make others feel good but he was that guy, he was a great person and a great friend.

"My heart goes out to his family, no loss is small but like his personality, his passing is a huge one.  We will never forget."

Jas Nandra, who also trains at Better Gym, left a tribute to Mr Plumptre.

He said: "He was a very nice guy. He was very humble, it is just a real shame. I trained with him a little, it's a real shame."

A spokeswoman for Better Gym said the incident is being investigated by environmental health officers.

She said: "We can confirm that a customer was involved in an accident at Better Gym Bexleyheath on the morning of September 6.

"An EHO investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now under way.

"We understand that the customer has passed away in hospital. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends."

Paul Redman also knew Tunde through training.

He said: "I had known Tunde for about 12 years we used to train together with another friend back in Erith and then for the last two years at Better Gym in Bexleyheath. 

"He was so friendly, polite and funny it was a privilege to have known him.  He was always so open and friendly and had a real zest for life, he will be missed. 

"My thoughts are with his family at this time."

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 07.24am on Wednesday, September 6 to a report of a man in cardiac arrest at a gym in Broadway, Bexleyheath.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.

"The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"The Health and Safety Executive has been informed as is procedure."
