A gaming festival that will feature professional gamers and the latest virtual reality equipment is going to be hosted in Thamesmead.

The festival will be open to anyone aged 11 and over and will give them the chance to meet the professionals.

There will be lessons on how to become a YouTuber and gain a insight into careers in gaming, as well as tips on how to stay safe online.

Run in partnership with Peabody, Game and Popup Business School, the festival will be held between Monday August 21 and Friday August 25.

Peabody's executive director of communities, Stephen Burns, said: "Thamesmead’s first Gaming Festival will hopefully give young people from the area an insight into one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.

"The gaming and enterprise industry is worth nearly £4bn in the UK alone so we want to help people learn more about it.”

The gaming and enterprise industry is worth $100billion worldwide, bigger than the TV and film industry combined.

The free VOID Gaming Festival will be taking place 12 – 5pm will be taking place at The Link Thamesmead, Bazalgette Way off Harrow Manorway, SE2 9BS.
