Drivers in Bexley should prepare themselves for roadworks during the school holidays as the council announces a number of diversions.

Improvements to Gravel Hill and Highland road mean that the area will remain closed throughout August.

From July 31 Albion road will also be closed for traffic travelling towards Crayford between the bowling alley to Townley Road.

Traffic needing to access the area behind the Premier Inn will have to use the bus lane from Townley Roundabout, which will be suspended.

From August 7, Albion Road will also be closed between Highland Road and Gravel Hill for traffic travelling towards Crayford.

Construction will also begin on the two new roundabouts planned on Gravel Hill at the junctions with Albion Road and Broadway and Watling Street.

Construction will also begin on the Marriott Hotel side with traffic on Gravel Hill diverted across to the opposite side of the road to the Marriott.

Most of these Albion Road works are expected to be completed during the school holidays.

Throughout the works all car parks and businesses will be open as usual. Buses will face some diversions.

After the school holidays, construction will continue on the two new roundabouts on Gravel Hill, and traffic will be moved to the Marriott side of Gravel Hill, with a temporary roundabout in operation at the Albion Road/Gravel Hill junction allowing all turning movements.

Work will also continue on Albion Road between Townley Road and Highland Road, with traffic travelling towards Crayford diverted.
