A country singer from Erith has been nominated for an international award for his song inspired by President Donald Trump.

Wayne Jacobs has already won awards for his country music and is looking forward to a ceremony in Nashville in September.

The 55-year-old civil servant wrote his award nominated song, ‘Stars and Stripes of Freedom’, after being inspired by Donald Trump and the patriotism of the USA.

Mr Jacobs, of Riverdale Road, said: “I would be on cloud nine if I won. It has taken a few years to get to this point, working at my songwriters so it would be the best feeling in the world.”

The singer-songwriter has been nominated for World Artist Outside the USA and Canada at the Josie Music Awards in the states.

He said: “I wrote the song about being patriotic, they love the 4th of July and they have all these different names for their flags and I tried to get that into my song-writing.

“I was inspired to write this patriotic country song when Donald Trump became President the song is all about their 4th of July parade the bugle tune Taps and their American flag.”

Mr Jacobs sent the song to be produced by Tom Manche in Nashville and sent it to President Trump on Twitter when he got it back.

He said: “American radio presenter on Facebook Sue Walton who loved the song sent it on to The Josie Music Awards.”

“I have 2,000 fans or so on Facebook and they seem to like it. I try to be different and unique.”

Mr Jacobs has previously won the Listeners’ Club prize at the UK Country Radio awards and has had his song about 9/11, ‘May We Never Forget’, played at the museum at Ground Zero.

The singer is hoping to find a sponsor to help him get to the award ceremony in Nashville Tennessee in September.
