A Bexleyheath bus driver has spoken of the moment he found the unresponsive body of a man in Market Place.

Andy Hodson, a bus driver at Bexleyheath garage, saw the body as he started his shift yesterday (April 27) morning at 4.30am.

Police said the body of a man in his 60s was found in Market Place.

Mr Hodson said: “I was just starting my shift when I saw him in the bus stop. As I got closer I saw that he wasn’t breathing. I went straight into bus driver mode when something like that happens, it’s a code red.

“He looked more like 50 than 60. Police were driving down and I flagged them to stop.

“I stayed the whole time. Police did a brilliant job, they tried to resuscitate him. When the ambulance came they took it in turns. They were there for about 45 minutes.

“It’s really not a nice way to go, I just hope the family are ok.”

Police said his next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: “The death is being treated as non-suspicious at this early stage and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
