A mechanic said Singaporean hackers “nearly made me bankrupt” after they hacked his business Facebook page.

Marc Isaacs, 31, owns Marc’s Motor Mechanics in Welling and had to be away from work for a few days as he was at his grandmother’s funeral.

When he got back to work on March 3, he discovered that he couldn’t log into his company’s Facebook page, spam advertisements for jewellery were being published on there, and he was over £4,000 poorer.

He said the entire experience made him afraid to use Facebook for business again due to how difficult it was to get sorted out.

He said: “I only just got control back on Thursday [March 9]. They hacked my Facebook page and started posting ads for jewellery.

“The more I look into it, the more people I see who have been hacked and found out that Facebook don’t get back.

“Now I am going to be afraid to use it again. It nearly made me bankrupt. It’s all the money I need to buy parts.

“I’m worried in case other companies get the same treatment. I don’t know how they can get away with this.”

Facebook have been contacted for a statement.
