This is how many times rail companies that run services through south, south-west and south-east London have apologised (at the time of writing) to angry passengers this year…

  • Southern Rail: 37,858 times. 51 times per day on average.
  • Southeastern: 34,314 times. 100 times a day on average.
  • South West Trains: 14,698 times. 43 times a day on average.

The much-maligned Southern has apologised more times than any other train company this year, according to a website that records every time each UK rail operator says sorry.

Figures show Southern has apologised to its customers on Twitter more than 37,000 times in 2016 so far, saying sorry 111 times per day on average.

The beleaguered train company tweeted apologies 37,858 times since January 1, while Thameslink has said sorry 17,644 times – 51 per day on average.

Perhaps the figures are not surprising, as crisis-ridden Southern just this morning cancelled more than 1,000 trains.
