A Turkish restaurant in Sidcup has offered a heartwarming gift to lonely or elderly people this Christmas.

The Muslim-owned Shish restaurant, in Halfway Street, is offering a free Christmas meal to anyone who finds themselves alone on the big day.

A poster posted in the window and on social media said: "No one eats alone on a Christmas Day! We are here to sit with you.

"Three couse meal for the homeless.

"From 12 - 6pm. Any homeless or elderly are welcomed."

In several tweets the restaurant wrote: "Please share this around and get the news forward to anyone that is in need/ elderly/ homeless.

"Help us to make sure that no one is alone this Christmas."

The offer has recieved considerable praise across social media.

One twitter user, called Sarah, wrote: "I don't live near sidcup but your act of kindness has made me and my family want to come and visit your restaurant very soon."

Steph Eastment said: "This is a wonderful thing to do, I work with the elderly and it's surprising how many are on there own for Christmas."

The free meal consists of soup and cacik for the starter, a choice of chicken casserole, vegetarian casserole or chicken shish for the main course, and rice pudding for dessert.
