A 17-year-old Dartford boy has paid tribute to his dad after he died from meningitis two months ago.

Lee Jordan, 42, went to sleep and when he woke up, he could not speak or move – he passed away in hospital three days later after contracting the deadly disease in July.

And his son Frankie has raised more than £450 for Meningitis Now on a JustGiving page and is set to take part in a 5k run at Central Park in Dartford on October 23.

The former Bexley resident told News Shopper: “My dad was the most loving, caring person I’ve ever met. He didn’t have a nasty bone in his body and he always put others first. We were best friends.

“But, he had a lot of bad luck, when something good would happen to him, it would be followed with bad news.

“He was made redundant from his job and he became a chef to make sure he could still provide for his two kids.

“He went to sleep and woke up and couldn’t move or speak – doctors say it could’ve been a little scratch on his body which caused the meningitis.”

Mr Jordan was a diehard Millwall supporter who could always be seen wearing a flat cap.

The Mayor of Dartford John Burrell will be starting the run in Central Park next month, according to Frankie.

“The run will be taking place at 12pm and the mayor will be there at the start,” the teen said.

“After the charity run is finished and I’ve raised the money, I’m going to apply for the army – I want to be a vehicle technician.

“My dad and I always talked about it and we used to watch my aunt in the cadets when I was younger.”

The target on Frankie’s JustGiving page is £500 and it has nearly been reached.

Part of it reads: “Two months ago my best friend, my dad, passed away leaving a massive hole in my heart, this was due to meningitis.

“Therefore I have decided to organise a 5k run on the 23rd of October to raise as much money for the charity Meningitis Now.

“Please feel free to attend the event, even if you are not running because all the support will be much appreciated.”
