A Welling woman is piloting a new form of CPR for kids with the use of a child-friendly first aid dummy called Stan.

Rhona Manning, 46 of Wickham Lane, has created Flat Stan First Aid with her colleague Simon Ferris, 45, in a bid to educate youngsters about health and safety.

The easy to use mannequin is taking schools by storm with its interactive approach to health and safety.

Ms Manning used to work at a mannequin-making factory and her colleague Simon practised as a first aid trainer.

“With my background and his background,” she said, “We’re helping people save lives together.

“We’re trying to get as many people training as possible.

“It’s taking off because we are talking to parents and they’re saying how fantastic it is.

“It’s also a necessary thing that kids need to know and we have children at primary school saying that they really like Stan because it’s fun - Stan is appealing to the children.

“They can’t push the adult mannequins but they can with Stan.”

The feedback from schools in south east London has been good, Ms Manning told News Shopper, as teachers have reported that Stan keeps the younger children interested where adult mannequins do not.

At the moment the pair have 30 first aiders taking part in the classes and it is hoped that Stan will be in place across all kid’s schools in south east London for those aged 11 years old and under.
