A 22-year-old man from Erith, who threatened an elderly couple at knifepoint in their Shooter’s Hill home, has been found guilty of aggravated burglary and sexual assault.

The husband and wife, both in their 70s were at home in Bushmoor Crescent when Daniel Awofisan, of Peareswood Road, and another man dressed in brown uniforms knocked at their door, on July 1 last year.

The man opened the door and was immediately grabbed and a knife was put to his throat, Inner London Crown Court heard.

The robbers demanded that he open his safe - although there was no safe at the address - and the man was taken upstairs at knifepoint, where his attacker threatened to murder him.

Although the man was not stabbed, he suffered a bruised eye and cuts to his face.

The woman was held at knifepoint downstairs and also threatened.

One of the men ripped off the clothing from the upper-half of her body and forced her to the floor, crouching over her.

The two men ran from the scene, before calling a minicab to make their escape.

Just one day after the burglary, bank loan and credit card applications started to be made using the couple's details.

On August 14, officers executed a search warrant at Awofisan's home address where they found credit and debit cards, a driving licence and a chequebook stolen in the burglary on July 1.

Awofisan previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing items used in fraud and five counts of fraud by false representation as a result of loan and credit card applications made following the burglary.

He was found guilty of aggravated burglary and sexual assault at Inner London Crown Court yesterday (May 26).

Appeals continue as police are still trying to trace the second suspect.

Awofisan will be sentenced after June 3 via video link.
