Rapper Professor Green was amongst the hundreds of people who turned out for a charity event in Shooters Hill in memory of a "murdered" dog.

Rachael Webb, from Shooters Hill, organised the Kharny Day event, named after her Labrador Staffie cross Kharn who died in Oxleas Woods in May 2013.

The 44-year-old relied on her assistant dog for a number of daily tasks after she was left with brain damage and severe injuries to her back when she was involved in a serious car crash.

Miss Webb said her “best friend” Kharn was killed when she believes he was hit by a moped whilst going for a walk in the woods.

The former dog trainer said organising the event has helped her through the grieving process.

Before the event, she told News Shopper: “It was a murder in my eyes.

“I don’t see that his murder was in vain because I’m raising awareness.”

The fundraising event earlier this month raised money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

It featured a dog show, the Pearly Kings and Queens, and even an appearance by Hackney born rapper Stephen Manderson, who goes by the name Professor Green.

Miss Webb thanked the event sponsors Oxleas Woods café and Blackheath Pet Supplies, as well as the marshals.

She hopes to make Kharny Day an annual event, with next year’s funds being donated to Blue Cross Hospital and pet cemetery in Charlton.
