Five family members will take part in a 5k Colour Run to thank a hospice that cared for two loved ones who lost their lives to cancer.

Jennifer Howden, 38, of Warren Road, Bexleyheath, and Louise Collier, 46, of Northumberland Heath, Erith, are taking part in the run in appreciation of Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.

Mrs Howden lost her uncle, John Lynn, last year.

The mum-of-two said: “He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died in April last year.

“A month later I took part in the run and it was a very poignant day for all of us as my uncle’s family home backs on to the field where the run is held in Danson Park.”

Mr Lynn’s daughter, Melissa Lynn, will also be lining up again on the starting blocks, having run the event last year.

The remainder of the five-strong team will be made up of Mrs Collier’s two children, Erith school pupils, Emily, 17, and Sam, 12.

Mrs Collier’s uncle, Richard Bernard, also passed away due to cancer.

She added: “He had been ill for a couple of years and fought bravely, but towards the end, his energy levels went downhill.

“He spent ten days at the hospice before he died.”

Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and has to raise more than £4m-a-year from the community to continue its work.

It cares for residents who are living with life-limiting illnesses.
