A man from Erith has appeared in court charged with a string of assaults against police officers in Woolwich, including hitting a female officer over the head with a metal pole.

Alwayne Ramone Jones is accused of punching police constable Matt Aitken in the face, giving him a black eye, in an alleged assault near Woolwich Dockyard on March 29.

During the same alleged attack, he is accused of striking officers Susanne Van Riijt around the head and Timothy Jones in the arm with a metal pole.

In two more alleged assaults on constables, the 25-year-old is accused of headbutting PC Antony Halsall at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich on March 29, and punching Thomas Brown in the chest the following day at Bexleyheath police station.

The sixth charge against Jones is possession of an offensive weapon – a metal pole – near Woolwich Dockyard on March 29.

Jones, of Cricketers Close, will next appear at Bromley magistrates’ court on June 2.

He was remanded on conditional bail.
