Temporary traffic lights are causing queues of traffic in Bexleyheath.

The lights have been put in place in Broadway from the junction with Albion Road to the junction with Church Road.

From today (February 1) the lights will operate from 9.30am - 3.30pm for around a week.

A spokesman for Bexley Council said: "This will allow control of traffic in Broadway, Albion Road and Church Road whilst works continue on the Bexleyheath Town Centre Revitalisation scheme.

"During this period traffic will be permitted to turn right out of Church Road, a movement which is normally prohibited."

One motorist told News Shopper: "Traffic chaos this morning due to men "working" outside The Wrong Un Public House in Broadway, Bexleyheath.

"Congestion is back to Danson Park."

Until early March, 24-hour temporary traffic lights will also be in continuous use in both directions in Broadway, first from Church Road to Lion Road and then from Lion Road to Devonshire Road.

This is to enable construction materials laid during working hours to harden and the road to become strong enough to take traffic.

Some side roads will also be closed during the works and local diversions will be signposted.

The spokesman added: "The works have been designed to improve the area covering the western part of the Broadway from Church Road to Devonshire Road, boosting business and creating a more attractive environment.

"Drivers should expect delays and are advised to seek alternative routes where possible. We apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause."
