A Thamesmead criminal has been jailed for six years after stealing a brand new Porsche and leading police on a chase at speeds of more than 100mph before writing the car off.

Aiden John O’Brien-Daniels, of Whernside Close, and an accomplice, broke into a house in Bexhill, Sussex, on December 5 last year, stealing jewellery, camera equipment and the keys to the £59,000 white Porsche Boxster GTS sports car.

The pair took the car, which had just five miles on the odometer, and set off towards Robertsbridge where it was spotted by a police traffic patrol.

O’Brien-Daniels, 20, then led police on high-speed chase towards Hastings, driving dangerously into the path of oncoming vehicles and hitting more than 100mph.

At a mini roundabout, he lost control of the stolen car and crashed it into other vehicles and street barriers before fleeing.

He was also disqualified from driving for five years.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Jason Tuck, of Sussex Police, said: "O'Brien-Daniels is a man who showed no regard for other people, be it someone threatened with a knife, home owners or those lives put at risk by his dangerous driving.

“The judge imposed a lengthy sentence, underlining the severity of his offending and the impact his actions had on other people."
