Bexley Council hopes to move forward with the sale of Old Farm Park in Sidcup - when they discuss "surplus" open spaces at tonight's cabinet meeting (November 17).

Councillors will listen to objections to the proposals, before continuing to discuss "disposal" of the green areas.

This means a motion to sell the eastern side of the park could be passed this evening, pending the support of councillors.

Dozens of concerned residents are expected to attend the meeting, and voice their opinions.

A statement from the Bexley Council reads: "The Council is facing unprecedented financial pressures, so must consider all opportunities for addressing the future projected deficit, which is estimated to be £34m by 2018, to enable it to continue to meet its statutory obligations.

TODAY'S TOP STORIES:

"This process includes a thorough re-appraisal of its green assets, including a review of the level of open space provision across the Borough.

"This review has shown that Bexley is ranked seventh highest London Borough in terms of the total area of publicly accessible open space land and fourth highest in the total area of accessible open space per 1000 population."

The cabinet meeting is taking place at the Civic Offices, from 7.30pm.

Wilde Road park and West Street Small Park are also earmarked for closure.
