A man is appealing for the whereabouts of a car after his father, who has dementia, forgot where he parked it in Greenwich.

Malcolm Baker, 76, was driving on August 8 to see a friend near where he lives in Dagenham.

Mr Baker Snr, a retired mechanic, is in the early stages of dementia and while driving home he became lost.

His son, Richard Baker, 49, is appealing for the whereabouts of the silver Ford Focus Saloon registration number EA02YLW after searching in vain for it for over a month.

Mr Baker, from Croydon, told News Shopper: “We believe he got lost. The police picked him up on camera going over the Dartford Bridge so we knew he’d gone over the water.

“He came off we believe along the A2 although we’re not 100 per cent sure.

“He went around lunchtime and when he didn’t come home by 6pm we phoned the police and reported him as missing.

“We were waiting for the police to pick him up again on cameras.”

His father was eventually found at 12.30am when he knocked on a door along Eaglesfield Road, Shooter’s Hill, saying he was lost.

Police took him to Plumstead station where he was ‘confused’.

Mr Baker, a train driver, added: “What’s happened is, he must have left his car, parked it somewhere and started walking.

“He said he started walking in daylight so he could have been walking for three or four hours.”

Mr Baker Jnr, who is married with two children, believes the car is parked within the Kidbrooke, Blackheath, Eltham, Shooter's Hill or Plumstead areas.

This is the make and model of the car

Before the incident there had been no problems with Mr Baker Snr’s driving but his license has now been taken away.

His son added: “I’ve been driving up and down those areas for hours and hours looking for it.

“We’ve asked local cab firms to look out for it and checking council websites for cars which get towed away.

“The police still have it on their radars so if they drive past it they will pick it up.

“It’s not worth much but we’ve got to keep the insurance and tax to keep it on the road, we’ve got to keep it legal.

"Because it’s lost not stolen there’s no claim on the insurance.”
