A questionable overtaking manoeuvre from a Tesco delivery van has sparked debate on Youtube after it was caught on camera veering round a corner in Bexleyheath.

The footage, caught by Monika D’Agate, a local driving instructor, shows the van speed past a learner driver as they attempt to turn left into Highland Road.

The learner was left distressed as a car raced past her on Latham Road, followed by the van.

Ms D’Agate, 47, of Poplar Road, looked on in shock as she had to calm her upset pupil.

The 47-year-old, who has been an instructor and therapist for 11 years, said: “I was disgusted because it was a company vehicle.

“It was so surprising what he did.

“There was no reason for him to overtake us.”

Since the event Ms D’Agate has had to counsel her pupil who, after a series of incidents on the road, is severely lacking confidence.

The driving instructor said: “People don’t seem to respect the fact that the learner drivers are learning.

“When people are in a rush they think they can go abuse others on the road.

“They don’t realise that incidents like these have a dramatic effect on a learner’s ability to drive.”

As well as driving tuition Ms D’Agate helps others overcome anxiety problems with therapy, but insists she shouldn’t have to.

She said: “The Tesco van driver, like others on the road, needs some driver education.

“We need to put ourselves in their shoes when we were learning to drive.”

A Tesco spokesperson said: ”We were disappointed to see this driving from our colleague.

“We are investigating the matter in more detail.”

Ms D’Agate, of the First London Driving Academy, believes she will be able to get her pupil back on the road with psychological support but she is one a very few teachers who is able to offer this service.
