A furious father of two disabled sons has hit out at Crossrail after discovering a new railway bridge built in Abbey Wood gives passers-by a direct view into his children’s bedrooms.

Michael Manghan, 35, and his partner, Vicky Keeble, 29, of Bracondale Road were shocked to see a huge footbridge erected above their garden.

The bridge looks directly into the bedrooms of Kenzie, three, Conor, seven and nine-year-old Kai as well as the family’s living room and garden.

Mr Manghan said: "When it’s open we’ll have no privacy.

"It’s completely intruding on our home."

The couple are full-time carers for Kenzie who suffers with Spina Bifida and Kai who has Cerebral Palsy.

The doting dad added: "We already have enough problems with the old footbridge - people throw things off there and people use the bridge to take drugs.

"It’s not the sort of place that attracts nice behaviour - it’s not a safe place."

"You can see right into the back bedrooms which belong to our children and into the living room.

"With the boy’s disabilities they are in there a lot and now we feel like we can’t use it.

"They won’t be able to use the garden either."

The bridge has been built as part of work by Network Rail for the introduction of Crossrail.

Abbey Wood’s original railway station was demolished in May and has been replaced by a new station which will be fully operational in 2018.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: "The new bridge has planning permission and is needed to replace the old footbridge that wasn’t wide enough to cross the existing train line as well as the new Crossrail tracks.

"We recognise the impact that this has on some of the people living close to the railway.

"To minimise the impact on residents, we will be discussing with the local authority possible changes to the existing planning permission, such as extra screening for local properties and options for a staged opening of the bridge."
