Scammers are targeting Bexley’s elderly with promises of a new house and cash prizes.

Fifteen scam victims, with an average age of 75, were visited by Bexley’s Trading Standards team last week (July 18).

The team want to retrieve money and reduce the risk of repeat incidents for the victims, who were scammed out of £400 in a few days.

The cons included a prize draw for a new house or large sum of money, and fake Euro lottery tickets – all demanding cash up front.

Cabinet Member for community safety, environment and leisure, Coun Peter Craske said: “Age is clearly no barrier for the experienced scammer.

"They have no scruples whatsoever.

"I hope that this group will think twice before signing up to anything or handing over their hard earned cash.
