A nine-year-old girl from Abbey Wood, who survived cancer, attended a special party saluting her courage.
Foteini Gkatsou and her twin sister Sofia were guests of honour at the stars and space themed Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Star Awards party at The Roof Gardens in Kensington last Saturday (May 30).
The celebration, held in partnership with TK Maxx, was organised to help raise awareness of the charity’s work in the field of childhood cancer research and the urgent need to boost funds.
Foteini was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2012, when the disease was already at an advanced stage
Lengthy and complicated treatment saved her life, but what got her through was her twin sister Sofia, who was constantly at her side and never missed a hospital appointment.
Foteini is now in remission and back at school.

She was one of 20 children from across the UK who came together as special ‘ambassadors’ to represent the 620 children who received Kids & Teens Star Awards in 2014/15.
Foteini, Sofia, mum Sissy and dad Dimitris also met a stellar line up of celebrities including Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins, former Pussycat doll Kimberly Wyatt and TV presenter Matt Johnson, before receiving Foteini’s Kids & Teens Star Awards medal during a presentation ceremony.
After the party, Sissy said: "The girls had a great day. They enjoyed all the space experiments and games, especially the man who made balloon animals.
"It was lovely to see all the children forgetting about being ill and enjoying themselves."
